Perinatal & Reproductive Psychiatry · Miami, FL
I'm Ana Zaldivar, M.D. — a psychiatry resident with a special interest in the mental health of women through every stage of the reproductive journey, from preconception through postpartum and beyond.
How I Think About Care
Mental health needs shift with every stage of the reproductive journey. You don't need to be in crisis to reach out — early, ongoing support changes what the rest of the journey looks like.
Stage 01
Anxiety around fertility, family-planning decisions, and the emotional weight of trying to conceive deserve support long before pregnancy begins.
Stage 02
From mood changes to medication questions, pregnancy brings its own psychiatric considerations — and there are evidence-based options to weigh with your care team.
Stage 03
The fourth trimester carries real risk for depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. Support that starts early can make recovery easier.
Stage 04
Reproductive mental health doesn't end at the one-year mark — PMDD, hormone-related mood changes, and later-life transitions matter too.
About
I'm a second-year psychiatry resident in Miami, training with a focus on perinatal and reproductive psychiatry — including postpartum depression and anxiety, PMDD and hormone-related mood changes, psychiatric medication use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the mental health side of fertility and family planning.
I started this site to write, in plain language, about the things I wish more people understood about reproductive mental health — and to be a resource people can find long before they're standing at a crisis point.
"It is never too early to ask for help. There are so many ways to feel better than you do right now — I want more people to know that before things get hard, not just after."

Nearly every new mother experiences the baby blues. Far fewer know where the line into something more serious actually is.

Why reproductive psychiatry works best as prevention, not just crisis response — and what early support can actually look like.
